Tutoring in Mackay –
with a difference
At Absolutely 4 Kids, tutoring is anything but traditional. We support children to grow their confidence and skills in a way that feels safe, fun, and tailored to who they are — because no two learners are the same.
Based in Mackay, we offer play-based tutoring and small group sessions designed to help children enjoy learning again while building strong foundations in reading, writing, and maths.
Tutoring That Moves With Your Child
You won’t find rows of desks or endless worksheets here. Instead, children have the freedom to choose how they learn best — whether that’s sitting on a cushion, using a wobble stool, or working hands-on with whiteboards, blocks, or games.
Our play-based tutoring in Mackay is:
-
Movement-friendly – with opportunities for active bodies to stay engaged.
-
Child-led – giving children ownership of their learning journey.
-
Confidence-building – because when a child feels safe, supported, and successful, real growth begins.
Building Skills and Confidence
Our tutoring sessions support school-aged children to build strong foundations in English and Maths, with a focus on confidence as much as curriculum. We help children:
-
Strengthen reading, writing, and comprehension.
-
Grow in number sense, maths strategies, and problem-solving.
-
Develop self-belief, communication skills, and resilience.
Each session also creates space for children to talk through challenges — whether it’s a tricky topic at school, playground worries, or confidence wobbles. These conversations matter just as much as the academic content, because when children feel heard, they’re far more open to learning.

Each Learning Sequence is Based On...
-
An initial assessment
-
Ongoing observations during sessions
-
Curriculum expectations (used to guide, not dictate)
This means your child gets exactly what they need, when they need it - with flexibility to grow at their own pace.

Small Group Tutoring: Connected, Collaborative, Confidence-Building
Our small group tutoring sessions offer the best of both worlds — individualised support with the added benefits of social learning. With a maximum of four children per group, each child receives personalised attention while also learning alongside peers in a fun, low-pressure environment.
Group sessions are:
-
Play-based and engaging, with hands-on resources and movement woven throughout
-
Collaborative, encouraging children to share ideas and learn from one another
-
Confidence-building, as children see they're not alone in their challenges
-
Themed around foundational skills in Maths and English, like counting, number sense, phonics, and sentence construction
-
Carefully matched, with each group formed based on children’s developmental needs and learning styles
Learning in a small group can be incredibly powerful - not just academically, but socially and emotionally.
Children often feel more motivated, less anxious, and more willing to try when they’re supported by a trusted adult and surrounded by like-minded peers.
