Tutoring Team Leader
TUTORING TEAM LEADER

Absolutely 4 Kids, Mackay QLD

Casual to start, permanent potential

Afternoons during term & Optional Saturdays | Mackay River Street | Immediate start

We are growing and we have wonderful kids on our waitlist who deserve the kind of warm, personalised support that our families already love us for. We are looking for a Tutoring Team Leader to join our team, someone who brings real expertise, a calm presence, and a genuine passion for helping kids who find learning hard finally feel like they can do it.

If you are a teacher who stepped away from the classroom to raise your own kids and you are ready to do something meaningful again on your own terms, this might be exactly what you have been waiting for.

ABOUT ABSOLUTELY 4 KIDS

I started Absolutely 4 Kids because I believe every child deserves to feel confident in their learning, especially the ones who have started to think they are just "not a reader." We are a literacy, numeracy and school readiness business in Mackay and we do things a bit differently.

Our approach is play-based, low pressure and genuinely focused on building confidence before anything else. We work with a lot of kids who have struggled elsewhere, including neurodiverse learners, and watching them turn a corner is honestly the best part of the job.

We are a small, close knit team and our families feel like part of our community, not just names on a roster. You will walk into a warm, welcoming environment where your expertise is valued, your ideas are heard, and every child's win feels like a team win. Shoes are optional. Fun is required.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

This isn't just a standard tutoring role as we are looking for someone to lead our team of tutors. You'll be delivering sessions yourself and also being the kind of steady, knowledgeable presence that helps our other tutors grow. You don't need formal leadership experience, but it would be a bonus. Maybe you were the teacher other staff came to when they had a tricky kid they didn't know how to reach, or you were the teacher who loved taking on prac students or mentoring new graduates because you were passionate about supporting other teachers to be great at what they do.

- Delivering small group and one on one literacy and numeracy sessions for primary aged kids, Prep to Year 6, in person in Mackay CBD

- Mentoring other teachers and supporting staff to deliver the best sessions possible using our programs and resources (which you’ll be trained in)

- Sessions run Monday to Thursday afternoons during school terms, 45 minutes each

- Saturday morning sessions are also available if that suits your schedule

- Daytime sessions for homeschooling families optional

- Admin and organisational tasks to keep things running smoothly between sessions

- Working closely with the director to support, encourage and lead our team as well as communicating with families regarding their child’s progress

- Being the trusted go-to person for our kids, parents and tutors when things come up

- Being the first point of contact for tutors if questions or concerns come up during sessions

- Checking in with the team about how individual students are progressing and keeping the director informed of anything that needs attention

MORE ABOUT YOU

You are the sort of person who...

- Lights up when a child who thought they couldn't read suddenly realises they can

- Has a natural warmth that kids gravitate toward, especially the ones who have had a hard time

- Knows how to make a struggling learner feel safe enough to try, and patient enough to wait while they do

- Naturally supports the people around you, not because it's in your job description but because that's just who you are

- Gets things sorted calmly and without fuss, even when things don't go to plan

- Is ready to bring your whole self back to the work you love, just in a way that still leaves something in the tank for your own family

This probably isn't for you if...

- You are looking for something temporary to fill in between other things

- You don't have a teaching qualification or substantial experience with primary aged kids

- You prefer working independently and aren't that interested in being part of a team

- Afternoons during school terms don't work for your life right now

- Literacy isn't really your thing and you just want tutoring hours

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU

If you've been wondering whether you'll be rusty after time away, we think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Small groups, kids who genuinely need you, and a team that will appreciate everything you bring. This is the role that lets you remember why you became a teacher in the first place, without the parts that burned you out.

- Above award pay, and we will never ask you to work unpaid hours. Your time is valued here.

- Hours that fit your life. Monday to Thursday afternoons during term time only. No weekend work, no reports, no parent teacher nights, no giving what's left of yourself at the end of a long day.

- Genuine investment in your professional development. We'll back you to feel confident and up to date, whether you're stepping back in after a break or just want to keep growing.

- A role with real purpose and responsibility, not just hours to fill.

- A team that genuinely gets along. We laugh a lot and we look out for each other.

- You'll be trusted to do what you're good at. No micromanaging.

3. What days and hours are you available?

I'd genuinely love to hear from you.
